This was taken on the 3 Dec 99 showing where they cut and the drain line to drain any residual blood from the wound. The tumour was about the size of a marshmellow so there was quite a hole which had to stay closed

This is me lying down and looking for sympathy. The pain in the neck was quite literal. Thank goodness for Lentogesic pain killers.

This photo was taken on the 4 Dec 99 just after the tumour was taken from my neck. The tumour was taken from the right side just below my jaw. This is the last photo showing how healthy I was.

This is after I had been told that I had neck and head cancer and I had just had my bottom row of teeth removed. This is when I started losing weight as I had a mouth full of stitches and no teeth to bite or chew with. The new plate was fitted on the same day so it was very painful and uncomfortable

Lying in Unitas Hospital, Oncology ward, with the drips and everything plugged in. The white machine was supposed to feed me but the doctors could not get a naso-gastro tube down my throat because of all the damage done in the throat. Note the night flying goggles. Ref : Episode 17teen.

This is when I came home for a week break to recuperate. At the time it was a good idea but it proved to be detrimental as I was not healed enough to eat solid foods and I returned to hospital a couple of days later. Note the weight loss. By this time I had lost more than 10 kilo’s. ref : Episode 22wo.

Standing in the shower at home during the first break. Note the weight loss everywhere. Didn’t need a bigger sponge at the time. Ref : Episode 22wo.

Relaxing on my luxurious bed during the break. Note the bandage on the right hand where the doctors fed me with the Total Parental Nutrition. This worked very well but the feed couldn’t stay in my hand as it would cause damage to the arteries because of the protein content. Ref : Episode 19teen , 20wenty, 21on

Back in hospital in the shower. Note the drip line into my chest next to the radiated area. This line went in under the collar bone into one of the main arteries in my chest. On the line is place for three feeds at the same time. This is where the TPN ( Total Parental Nutrition ) was plugged in. By this time I had gained a little weight and so the sponge was too small. This was taken by a photographer who was doing an article for the nurses promotional magazine. Me sitting in the ward lounge. Looking and feeling much better than I had over the last couple of weeks

Here I am locked into the mask on the bed waiting for the treatment to begin next >>

Here I wait for the treatment to begin. You can see the radiation machine head which shoots the radiation. Note the syringe body in my mouth to keep my mouth open and to keep my tongue depressed during the treatment. Also note the line up marks on the mask to ensure that the same area is radiated every time that the machine is used

This is the bed inside the radiation room which the patient lies on. The mask is fitted over the patients face and locked into the black headrest so that there is absolutely no movement. Quite uncomfortable

This is the radiation control room. The nurses and radiation technicians monitor the room with cctv and an intercom To make sure that the patient is alright at all times.

Caught relaxing at home with the feet up and the head down before everyone arrived and wrecked my sleep.

This photo shows the effects of a day of entertaining without the proper rest periods. I believed that I was strong enough to take on a whole day without rest.

This is a bust of myself with the hospital paraphernalia attached. It will serve as a reminder To the whole escapade of my cancer treatment and side effects.

Me minus my top row of teeth, two days after radiation damaged teeth were extracted. Once again, thanks to prescription drugs. Count the stitches and win a prize.
